Metro Reentry Release Paths

Metro Reentry Facility is a Georgia Department of Corrections state prison, not a county jail. Its residents are adult male felons in medium- or minimum-security custody. Leaving this facility does not create an entry in a DeKalb County recent-release list. The state record is the correct first path.

A resident may leave after the Parole Board authorizes parole, upon reaching a maximum release date, under another sentence action, or by transfer within GDC. A move to another prison is not community release. Parole ends prison confinement but begins supervised release. Full discharge means the state custody term has ended, although a separate court case, hold, or registration duty may still exist. The exact status must come from the agency record rather than the absence of a facility assignment.

Confirm Metro Reentry Release

Start with GDC Find an Offender. Search by GDC ID or case number when possible; exact-name searches may return several people. Compare identifying data, offense, county of conviction, and known sentence information before selecting a record.

1. Open the matching GDC offender record and inspect current status, location, sentence, and release-related fields.
2. If the record shows another GDC location, treat the event as a transfer rather than release.
3. If parole is involved, compare the Parolee Database and the Board’s decision information.
4. For active state supervision, use the DCS DeKalb field office as the local office path.
5. Request written verification from GDC Inmate Records when an official discharge record is needed.

GDC cautions that its online information should be verified through written correspondence with Inmate Records and Information, PO Box 1529, Forsyth, GA 31029. The online search is useful, but it is not a certified record. The sentencing court can also clarify a sentence computation or order when the public fields do not explain the change.

Metro Reentry Date Fields

Georgia release timing uses several terms. A Maximum Release Date, or MRD, relates to the end of the state sentence calculation. A Tentative Parole Month, or TPM, belongs to the Parole Board process. The Board expressly says a TPM is not a final release decision. It is the month for final review and, if appropriate, selection of a parole release date.

Good conduct and required program completion can affect parole action. Misconduct can postpone or cancel a TPM. Metro Reentry Facility History

This site has a distinctive state-reentry history. GDC says the structure was built in 1980, re-missioned for women in 1992, closed in 2011, and renovated beginning in 2017. It reopened on May 1, 2018 as a male reentry facility. Its published capacity is 355.

That timeline matters because the current mission is not ordinary county detention. The facility is designed for returning citizens nearing release into the metropolitan Atlanta community. The GDC release phase may include residential planning, release scheduling, and benefits assistance. Those planning steps help explain why an offender can remain assigned here even when a TPM or other projected marker appears.

Supervision After Metro Reentry

State parole decisions come from the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles, while field supervision is handled by the Georgia Department of Community Supervision. The Board’s Parolee Database is a post-release check. DCS is the practical field-office contact when the person is living under state parole or felony probation in the DeKalb Circuit.

The DCS DeKalb office is at 981 East Freeway Drive SE, Suite A, Conyers, GA 30094. It serves DeKalb and the DeKalb Circuit, lists 770-388-5929, and operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office’s Conyers location is important: state supervision is not handled at Metro Reentry Facility or the DeKalb County Jail after release.

Metro Reentry Record Sources

GDC’s offender record documents state custody and sentence information. The Parole Board supplies parole timing and parolee status. DCS manages field supervision. A sentencing-court record may explain the judgment or correct a time-computation problem. These systems overlap, but they are not interchangeable.

For a written release or discharge record, identify the person by full name, GDC number, date of birth, and conviction case if known. Ask for the existing record and specify the release field needed. GDC reports and facility counts may describe population and capacity, but they do not prove an individual release. The DeKalb release search should route county-jail questions elsewhere.

Verify the Final GDC Record

A facility assignment is only one point in a longer state-custody timeline. Diagnostic placement, transfer, reentry, parole planning, and final release can each change which office has the current facts. Record the date on which an online result was viewed and keep the GDC number with any written request. If two sources conflict, ask GDC Inmate Records for the existing status or discharge document and use the sentencing court for judgment or computation questions.

Do not substitute a DeKalb jail roster search for this step. County custody ended before a state placement at this facility. Likewise, a TPM does not prove that release occurred. The strongest confirmation combines a changed GDC status with the executed parole or discharge record and, when supervision follows, the appropriate Parole Board or DCS entry. A person who remains assigned to another GDC institution has transferred, not returned to the community.
