DeKalb Released Mugshot Records
A booking photo is created during arrest processing. It remains tied to that booking after release, but Georgia does not treat agency publication as unrestricted. O.C.G.A. § 35-1-19 limits when an arresting agency may post booking photos online and bars release to a requester when the image may be placed on a publication or site that charges for removal. A requester must affirm that the proposed use complies with the statute.
The image cannot establish guilt, disposition, or current custody. A case may later be dismissed, restricted, resolved by plea, or end in acquittal. The court docket supplies that context. The jail release sheet shows how custody ended. Neither fact can be read from the photograph itself.

Each channel covers a different population. The DeKalb Sheriff path concerns county-jail bookings. GDC photos belong to state offender records. A registry photo is available only when the person must register. VINELink focuses on custody status and alerts, not a complete photo archive.

No DeKalb Mugshot App
The Sheriff’s Tyler-hosted inmate lookup is current-custody oriented. Its DeKalb configuration explicitly sets mugshots, dates of birth, and addresses to hidden. It does not provide a public rolling release-photo list. A released person may no longer appear in the default results, so the lookup should not be presented as a historical mugshot gallery.
No official DeKalb Sheriff mobile app with a recent-release or mugshot feed was found. The Sheriff home page links to social channels and Georgia VINELink for victim notification. VINELink mobile apps can send custody-change alerts where agency data supports them, but they are not a DeKalb booking-photo feed. Request DeKalb Booking Photos
The Sheriff’s Open Records and booking-photo page says DeKalb County Jail booking photos are available to news organizations that have signed the Booking Photo Use Agreement required by Georgia law. It instructs a booking-photo requester to provide the inmate name and current booking number from Inmate Lookup by email. Multiple-photo requests use the Open Records process.
- Use the current lookup or known case records to identify the correct person and booking number.
- Read the Sheriff’s booking-photo conditions and Georgia use limits before requesting the image.
- Submit the inmate name, current booking number, and required compliant-use information through the stated channel.
- Use the Sheriff Open Records portal for multiple records or related booking and release documents.
- Keep the court disposition and release sheet with the image so the arrest photo is not separated from later case facts.
Georgia’s Open Records Act generally requires an initial response within three business days, not guaranteed delivery of every record within that period. Search, retrieval, redaction, production, and copying costs may apply. The first quarter hour is not charged, and ordinary paper copies are capped at ten cents per page unless another lawful fee applies. Photo access remains subject to the more specific booking-photo statute.
DeKalb News and State Photos
GDC’s Find an Offender warns that offender photographs display automatically when available. This is a valid channel for someone who entered Georgia prison custody, including a person released from a DeKalb-area state reentry or transitional facility. It is not a DeKalb County Jail mugshot and should not be labeled as one.
The Georgia Sex Offender Registry may publish a registrant’s photo because registry publication is a specific exception under state law. It should be used only when the person is legally required to register, not as a general released-inmate search. News outlets may also publish booking photos in event reporting. News coverage is selective and can remain online after custody or court status changes, so verify the current record with the Sheriff, court, or GDC.

Correct DeKalb Mugshot Publications
Georgia often uses the term record restriction rather than expungement. Restriction changes access to eligible criminal-history information; it does not erase every copy already published. Court disposition, agency records, news archives, and commercial pages may follow different correction procedures. Begin with a certified or official case outcome and identify which publisher holds the image.
The Georgia Attorney General’s mugshot website guidance states that commercial mugshot websites must remove an image at no charge within 30 days when one of eight statutory circumstances applies. Examples include restricted access, dismissal, nolle prosequi, and acquittal. Send the required proof to the publisher and preserve a copy of the request. If an official record itself is wrong, seek correction from the originating Sheriff, court, or GDC office rather than only contacting downstream sites.
Why DeKalb Mugshots Stay Hidden
DeKalb’s actual publication stance is restrictive in two linked ways. The public Tyler instance hides mugshots at the software-configuration level. The Sheriff’s records page then limits its described booking-photo process to news organizations with a signed use agreement and directs multiple requests through Open Records. That combination makes lawful requests and record context more important than browsing.

A request may therefore require more than a name. The booking number, stated use, requester affirmation, and governing exception can affect whether the image is released.
Verify DeKalb Mugshot Context
Start with the booking number, not the face alone. Names can repeat, appearances change, and an image may be attached to an old arrest rather than the release now being researched. Match the full name, booking or state offender number, arresting agency, booking date, charge, and case number. Then obtain the disposition from the correct DeKalb court. Superior Court generally handles felony cases, State Court offers misdemeanor criminal searches, and Magistrate Court provides early docket context.
A photo from GDC proves only that an offender photograph was available in a state record. It does not establish that the image came from DeKalb County Jail. A news image may be a booking photo, a file photo, or a photograph taken outside custody. A registry image belongs to a separate statutory publication system. Labeling the source correctly preserves the distinction between county arrest, state incarceration, registry status, and news reporting.
Release status requires its own check. A person absent from the active DeKalb inmate list may have been released, transferred to GDC, moved to another authority, or omitted for another system reason. VINELink may confirm a custody change. The Sheriff release record supplies the release type and date. Court records explain bond, dismissal, sentence, or another disposition. Do not let a photograph stand in for those records.
DeKalb Mugshot Removal Steps
First identify who controls the page. An official agency, news publisher, search engine, and commercial mugshot business each has a different correction process. Save the page address, capture the displayed name and arrest details, and obtain proof of the qualifying case result. The Attorney General’s Georgia guidance lists eight circumstances that may trigger free removal from a commercial mugshot site. The statutory request goes to that publisher, not automatically to every search result or news archive.
- Get a certified or official disposition, restriction record, or other proof that fits the claimed correction.
- Send a written removal request to the commercial publisher and cite the applicable Georgia circumstance.
- Keep delivery proof and a copy of the page as it appeared when requested.
- Allow the statutory 30-day period described by the Attorney General when the law applies.
- Address any inaccurate originating record separately with the Sheriff, court, GDC, or registry office.
Record restriction does not necessarily require a newspaper to erase truthful past reporting. It also does not guarantee that cached copies vanish at once. Correction work is most effective when the underlying court and custody records are accurate first. That gives each downstream publisher a clear official source for the new status.
DeKalb Booking Photo Record Package
A useful record package keeps the image with facts that prevent confusion. Include the booking number, booking date, arresting agency, charges as booked, release date and type, case number, and final disposition when available. If the person entered GDC, add the state offender number and clearly mark any GDC image as a state photograph. If the image came from news or a registry, record that source and access date.
The package should also preserve later corrections. A dismissal, acquittal, nolle prosequi, restricted record, amended charge, or corrected identity can materially change the meaning of the original arrest entry. Keeping those documents together supports accurate personal, family, court, and records-request use without sensationalizing an old image.
